I have also studied with these notable teachers:
Saul David Raye – Exhale, Bhakti Fest
Shiva Rea – Exhale, Bhakti Fest
Sarah Powers – Yin Yoga
Mark Whitwell – Bhakti Fest, LA
Samantha Gallo – Shanti Shanti, Soul at Home
I sprinkle equal doses of humor and yoga philosophy into my alignment-based asana classes. My teaching style is relaxed, fun, and intuitive. I encourage students to hand-select from a variety of modifications, creating an individual practice based on their mood, energy level, and desired outcome that day. I make Savasana special by chanting the Yoga Sutras in Sanskrit, creating an otherworldly end to a transformative yoga experience.
I also practice these other styles of yoga:
Bhakti yoga: I’m a kirtan (call-and-response chanting) leader, drummer, percussionist, and dancer.
Jnana Yoga: I’m the organizer of the Orange County Yoga Sutras Meetup group and the Learn Astrology Meetup group.
Karma yoga: I volunteered with the Orange County Probation Department for five and a half years, teaching yoga to incarcerated male minors. The boys said I made yoga fun yet challenging, and they slept better and were less reactive after their weekly yoga practice.
What Brought Me to Yoga
In 1979, next to a waterbed in Fort Worth, Texas, I discovered yoga in a book. I was a high school gymnast at the time, and I found that yoga helped hone my competitive edge. It helped outside the gym as well.
I’m an astrologer, and I enjoy teaching others how to read their own horoscope. I’m a Leo. My Gemini Moon helps when it comes to writing; I’m author of The Deeper the Roots, the Juicier the Fruits! 8 Spiritual Practices for a Juicy Life. I’m currently working on a young adult urban fantasy novel with yoga as a theme. When not teaching, I enjoy studying the Yoga Sutras, traveling, and attending yoga festivals and retreats.
